Coffee Body Scrub

I was in the lab for 13 hours today.  13 hours.  And that was after waking up at 2:45 in the morning and not being able to sleep.  So anyway, I’m tired.  So, so, sooooooo tired.  But all day my legs were itching from this dry winter air (and general scaliness).  I knew I couldn’t go to bed without doing something about it, so I made a little scrub when I got home.  As you may recall from the coffee soap tutorial, my parents saved their used coffee grounds for a few months and now I have a giant bag of coffee grounds.  So I started from there and then mixed in other stuff that I thought would be good in a scrub (which is basically the answer to the age-old question of “how do I make up a scrub recipe?”).  I didn’t want one too oily, so this scrub is a little on the dry side.  If you just wanted to feel slathered in luxury, I’d definitely add some more of one of the oils.  Anyway, here’s the recipe!

Moisturizing Coffee Scrub

  • 2 cups coffee grounds
  • 2 cups sugar (I used plain old granulated white sugar but I bet brown sugar would smell amazing here)
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 12 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 5 tablespoons sweet almond oil
  • 4 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave (this step isn’t completely necessary but it makes mixing a lot easier).  Then mix all the ingredients together.

Damn, that was one long, difficult craft.  I mean measuring some stuff and mixing it in a bowl.  Whew!  I need a nap.

I feel like this is a good time to talk about the glory that is my tiny measuring cup.  I love it.  I just want to keep it with me all the time.  Whisper to it about how it has made my life so much better.

But seriously the tiny little measuring cup is the best.  It measures in ounces, teaspoons, mL, and tablespoons.

Don't throw out your used coffee grounds! Use them to make this body scrub!
