Sinus clearing shower tablets

sinus soothing shower tabs tablets rosemary eucalyptus lavender cold relief congestion relief

Today was a long work day, 12 hours, so I didn’t have a lot of time to get stuff done after work.  After tidying up, emptying the dishwasher, and putting up the laundry I threw in the washer this morning I only had about half an hour to work with.  So I made some knock-offs of the Vicks Shower Soothers!sinus soothing shower tabs tablets rosemary eucalyptus lavender cold relief congestion relief

This is one of the easiest projects you can do.  Take a bowl full of baking soda and add enough water to make a dry paste.  You want to end up with a consistency where you can form a ball out of it and it holds its shape.  Next, stir in the essential oils you want.  Tonight I went with rosemary, lavender, and eucalyptus.  This blend is great when you have a cold, and as I mentioned in my last post I have a terrible cold.  My boss had it for an entire month and I’m going on three weeks with it myself.  But I digress . . .   Once you’ve scented your baking soda paste, press it into the cavities of a muffin tin.  I like to use a tassie pan for this.  If you’re using a hard metal pan, make sure you use cupcake liners.  With a silicone pan you can leave out the liners and just pop them out later.  Once you’ve filled your pan, just bake at 350 F for 20 minutes.  Once cooled you can just throw these on the floor of your shower.

You can use any essential oil you want for these.  Lavender and vanilla would be great for a relaxing shower, but I love how invigorating this combination is.  I enjoyed my shower so much that I think I’m going to try making a soap that smells like them.

Update:

I highly recommend a silicon tassy pan for these.  It’s just so much easier to pop these tablets out of the pan that way.  Here’s the one I use:  Mrs. Anderson’s Silicon Muffin Pan.

  1. First you state; “Take a bowl full of baking ‘powder'”, later in the article you say: “Once you’ve scented your baking ‘soda’ paste,”. Which is it? Powder or Soda??

  2. Wow. Looks easy and effective. Thanks!

Oh, man. I’m glad you commented on this. I have the beginnings of a sinus infection (again) and this is just what the doctor ordered.
